Mauna Kea, Hawai`i

The 4,200 meter high summit of Mauna Kea in Hawai`i houses the world's largest observatory for optical, infrared and submillimeter astronomy. My visit in February 2005 was a case of second time lucky. In 2004 when I visited the summit we were evacuated off the summit due to a white out (yes it does snow in Hawai`i). In 2005 the weather played nice so we got to visit the Gemini North and the Canada France Hawaii (CFHT) telescopes.
