Casco Viejo

Knowing that a National Geographic Expedition that went through the Panama Canal would not spend any time in Panama City itself I decided that I would visit it on a separate trip (which turned out to be my first trip to Panama). After a bit of research I discovered that I could stay in Casco Viejo, the old city built after Henry Morgan sacked the original site. This seemed like a much better idea than staying in the modern glass and concrete city across the bay. It turned out that I pretty much spent all of my time in Casco Viejo. It was an interesting collection of beautifully restored buildings, buildings under restoration and "buildings" looking like they were about to fall down. It also contained the very interesting Museo del Canal Interoceánico de Panamá (Panama Canal Museum).
